Cell cycle checkpoints and DNA repair mechanisms are of major importance to ensure genomic integrity and stability.
In hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells (HSPCs) these processes tremendously differ from those in differentiated tissue.
Deregulation within the hematopoietic system can alter cell cycle regulation and lead to transformation and cancerogenesis.
I am working to better understand these complicated mechanisms in HSPCs.
I am especially interested in DNA damage and mitotic control checkpoints and their relation to the development of diseases like leukemia.
