EGFR signaling in hematopoiesis and leukemia

Epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) is tyrosine kinase receptor that regulates cell growth, proliferation and survival in several tissues. Increased EGFR signaling has been tightly linked to cancer initiation and development in multiple types of solid tumors. Consequently, FDA-approved pharmacological small molecule inhibitors of EGFR like Erlotinib have remarkable therapeutic success in treatment of several solid tumors. A role of EGFR signaling in hematopoietic tissues and leukemia is not yet well characterized. In our lab we are interested in understanding the role of EGFR signaling in hematopoietic stem/progenitor and stroma cells during normal homeostasis and disease.
