Aging of the hematopoietic system functionally and phenotypically impacts on hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs). While young HSCs show a mostly polar distribution of cell polarity markers, the frequency of polar cells in aged HSCs is decreased. This project focuses on the establishment and maintenance of HSC polarity by cytoskeletal proteins downstream of the small RhoGTPase Cdc42 with the aim to decipher the mechanisms leading to a loss of polarity in aged HSCs.
